Subject: RE: Acres of Clams/Old Settler's Song (various songs)
acers of clams is a great song set to the tune of rosin the bow. i never knew this song untill 2007 when i first heard pete seeger sing this. after reading this thread just now this song was written in1877 by frank henry it was not first recorded untill 1948 on a session by alun lomax folk collecting of songs. the first recording can not be found but ten years later pete sung this song again. this song is remembered in pete's collections of songs and stories about the song are still heard today on documents . after hearing the death of him it was hard to understand that we coul not sing this in our own shows. one recording that ought to be heard is a recording made in 1986 was when he helped bruce springsteen sing the song and the recording went well.
