Subject: RE: Req: Bawdy WWI parody of There Is a Green Hill Far Away
THERE IS A GREEN HILL FAR AWAY

THERE IS A GREEN HILL FAR AWAY
WITHOUT A CITY WALL
WHERE THE DEAR LORD WAS CRUCIFIED
HE DIED TO SAVE US ALL
2 3 4...FOR HE'S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW
FOR HE'S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW.....etc

From the Unofficial Fighter Pilot's Songbook, undated (ca 1990). I think is it just the juxtaposition of hymn with "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". I have no evidence of this combo going back to the 1970s let alone the Great War.
