.... A group of us were walking through the city to the barracks, some looking for safety, others, perhaps, for action. We saw a church on a side road. "Can we rest in there for a while?" said somebody, and I agreed we could.

The people in the church were very polite, and offered us coffee and cakes. As we were eating, someone came in from the kitchen: "What's this on the radio? --- it's on every channel." Out of the kitchen came the chorus: "A hard rain's gonna fall."

"That's it," I said, "that's the signal," and I started putting my Kalashnikov back together, ready to move out. The church people were worried about a gun in a place of worship, and were saying, "You can't do that in here," but I said "You've got a choice to make, comrade: come with us, or don't ...."
