I'm not against GPT (which some people insist on misnaming "AI") per se, provided people recognise its limitations, which is far from a given. I suspect, and Garnet predicts, that the hype bubble over GPTs/LLMs will burst soon, preferably before it engulfs the entirety of some poor country's GDP or the expended waste heat cooks us all. What really frightens me is not the unknowns of machine intelligence, but the well-known, frequently-demonstrated and apparently ineradicable stupidity of humanity, which insists on sticking its fingers into the mains socket of the universe, often precisely because it's been told this is A Bad Thing To Do by someone who was around last time.
