A lot of banjoists tap tune the head of their banjo. But if you're just starting out, don't go there cos you'll get seriously frustrated!
For you, there's a torque wrench or a Drum Dial, the latter being better IMO.
Work slowly and target 88-92, making sure each bracket gives the same reading, or as close as you can get it. Small adjustments at a time.
There's no great degree of difficulty involved, so don't be too scared to have a go. But watch that upper reading (92) and don't crank way beyond that or BANG!
