Thread Name: DTStudy: The Dying Cowboy
Subject: RE: DTStudy: The Dying Cowboy
This is from memory, 1968 or before, and for good reason I haven't thought of it since till I saw this thread, so forgive any lapses. Off an EP (or was it a single) by IIRC one Glen Daly. Irish nationalist schmaltz so sorry for bringing it up.

The Dying Rebel
===============

The night was young, the battle ended,
The moon shone down O'Connell Street,
I stood alone, where a brave man perished,
And then had gone his God to meet.

The first I saw was the dying rebel,
And stooping low, I heard him cry
"God bless my home in Tipperary,
God bless the cause for which I die"

The next I saw was a fair young maiden
Kneeling by her lover's side,
She wept and cried, she was broken hearted
...(can't remember, pick your own cliche)....

The last I saw was a grey haired father
Looking for his only son,
I said "Old man, it is no use searching,
Your Irish boy to heaven has gone,

Your only son was shot in Dublin
Fighting for his country bold,
He fought for Ireland, for Ireland only,
The harp and shamrock, green white and gold"

Enough to turn anyone orange and blue.
