Okay, I just had to chime in here. The opening lyrics float in my head from time and today I thought I’d search the lyrics and happened upon this site. Now, after singing the entire song after such a long time, I’d like to add my bit. We sang this song at St. Swithins Anglican School in British Guiana (now the Republic of Guyana) in the late 50s. I also remember “oh no John no John no. My father was a Spanish captain..etc” nd the brook ..”I chatter chatter as I flow to join the brimming river…”. Really brings back the memories.
