Just now found this thread. I was in Austin around 1995 and in time for Antone's birthday; his birthday was always observed with a concert -- not a club gig, but a concert in a hall. And who should be the headliner, but Buddy Guy. Guy came alone and played with the freelance blues musicians in Austin, enough to form a band of their own. He was electrifying. He played until late, and I remember going out to the parking lot afterwards, and there were Mexican fruitbats zooming all over the lot (it was summertime, I believe).
