THANK YOU for comments re this song, a treasure passed on to us by Bessie Jones, from her grandfather Jet Samson (thanks to the work of Alan Lomax). Our little family band The Beat Greens opens every concert and local farmers' market gig with this song, preceded by channeling dove coos via a very old clay ocharina (in the form of a quetzal bird) gifted to me in 1989 by a woman named Renatta in Tepoztlan, Mexico.
I had been singing it "wont you tell it to me," but after listening more carefully to Bessie Jones's singing, we will definitely sing it "Don't you tell it to me-- just meet me at the door..." at the Farmers Market this Wednesday! May our folksongs and all our music-making, as Old Pete might say, "surround hate and force it to surrender"
