Subject: Lyr Req: Uaigh Cois na Trá - Ma Theann Tú go hEir
An anonymous guest has requested lyrics of the song Uaigh Cois na Trá on a discussion thread about a different song in Irish Gaelic, Thíos Cois na Trá Domh. I found two recordings on line: Anna Bean uí Gallchóir on the Coláiste Arainn Mhór recording Rabhartha Ceoil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYlGEOeRBW4, also on Spotify. And an older recording under the title "Má Theann Tú go Éirinn" (first words of the song), sung by Domhnall Phádaí Hiudaí and collected by Hugh Shields, which you can listen to at www.itma.ie/drawingfromthewell/brian_mac_gloinn
Anna Bean uí Gallchóir's voice is very clear, but I wish there wasn't a drone accompaniament. I can catch loads of phrases but for me it would take ages to completely transcribe the lyrics of this song of exile and loss. The first line is "Má théann tú go hÉirinn, tabhair mo bheannacht anonn air sléibhte Thír Chonaill" = if you go to Ireland, give my regards (blessings) to the mountains of Tyrconnell (Donegal)
