*bzzt* Objection: Julius Caesar never declared himself a god --- that was retrofitted onto him long after he was skewered. The first to be declared a god while he was alive was Augustus (né Octavian), and that was wished on him from afar. The first to deify himself was Caligula, which in the current context is entirely apt.
