The note below the video seems to identify the singer as "Ernest Sellick". As I recall, vaguely, from Helen Creighton's notes elsewhere, the singer was a sea-captain from Prince Edward Island, originally at least. Whether it was actually Charles Cates or if there is some coincidence or conflation or misinformation at work, I don't know. Don't have my books or records on hand; maybe I'll look it up later, if no one beats me to it
