Thread Name: Folk songs about floods?
Subject: Lyr Add: French Broad River Blues
Inspired by the flooding from Hurricane Helene in 2024 (thread from BS) comes the song "French Broad River Blues" by Hiram, a band out of Gaston County, North Carolina. Below is my transcription of their song. Obviously, this one takes some levity of the situation.

FRENCH BROAD RIVER BLUES

I had my home near the riverside
Up in the mountains, high
Until that water came flowing by

Everything I ever worked for
Washed up upon the shore
Just back in 2024

Now my car's floating down in the river
Along with the bar and the Biltmore

Everything I ever worked for
Come floating past my door
Just back in 2024

CHORUS
Cause I got them French Broad, living by the river blues
I got them French Broad, living by the river
With nothing more to lose

Used to have fun on the mountainside
Til the water came up so high
It took all the crops that I had

It's been since 1916
Since a storm like Helene
Come and washed us all out so bad

Now my home's floating down, I guess I'm homeless
But homeplace memories forever are priceless

No homeplace for my memories
Thanks to old Helene
Brought us back to 1916

CHORUS

I had a dog on the mountain high
She'd bark and howl the holler wide
She'd run up and down that riverside

My dog is just no more to be seen
Since that old hurricane
Blowed in and stole my friend from me

Now my hopes and dreams washed away with the picket fence
Good Lord knows I didn't buy any flood insurance

I used to have a life by the riverside
Til the floodwater came on by
Washed it down with a landslide

CHORUS
