The source of the website's text appears to be "Wehman's Song Book No. 42" (N.Y.: n.d.). The song itself is "Copyright 1894 by Henry J. Wehman."

Not all the songs are copyrighted. Those that are are claimed by various persons. Leonard D. Geldert, who is credited as the (vaudeville) singer, may have claimed authorship and sold the copyright to Wehman.

No song in the periodical is copyrighted later than 1894, suggesting that 1894 is the publication date.

Two or three "Leonard D. Gelderts" are mentioned in newspapers of the period, but none is identified as a performer.
