“Where are we? Trump met Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Despite the hype, reports indicate that “no deal” has been reached.

Frankly, why is anyone surprised? Putin is not a man of peace. He is a tyrant with blood on his hands, intent on crushing Ukraine and clawing back influence through raw, unchecked aggression. Trump, meanwhile, postures as a master deal-maker, yet time and again proves incapable of managing figures of consolidated power.

Putin does not enter negotiations in good faith. He plays for time. He manipulates. Above all, he pursues only what strengthens his own hand. Expecting him to strike a meaningful peace deal with Trump, particularly one that halts his imperialist campaign in Ukraine, is wilfully naive.

The real question is not why no agreement was reached, it is why anyone believed that there was ever a serious chance of one.”

Seems to me to be a very accurate assessment.
