Occasionally one has to hear a long ballad a few times to appreciate it, particularly if the first performance has been mediocre, the same applies to poor diction and interpretation performances by singer song writers, however many of the latter do not have good melodies, most of the traditional ballads have tunes that are interesting and have stood the test of time.
