The Traditional Ballad Index could trace the song no earlier than Sam Hinton in the early '50s.

It also notes that "This song has bawdy variants."

I've never encountered one. My guess is that somebody has mixed up the chorus of this song with that of the quite unrelated and unpleasant "Hi Ho, Kafoozelum, the Harlot of Jerusalem." Not even the tunes are the same.
