I'm not trying to invade this discussion with archaeological content, but here is an article which shows what I mean. It is worth noting that the conservative politician was arguing against the Referendum which proposed giving a political and social voice to our First Nations people and unfortunately - IMO - the proposal was rejected:

Gerard Rennick (an Oz politician] says there's no archaeological evidence to prove Indigenous Australians have been here for 60,000 years. What are the facts?

...

"'It's interesting, when I grew up, I was told that the Aboriginals were here for 20,000 years, then it got extended to 40,000 years,' Senator Rennick said, asking where the evidence was for a 60,000-year timeline.

"The senator went on to say he was not questioning whether bipeds (animals that use two legs to walk) had been in Australia for 60,000 years, but that he thought it was 'stretching the truth' to 'claim that a particular race has been here for 60,000 years, when there's no actual archaeological evidence to prove that'."

...

"According to historian Billy Griffiths, specific archaeological sites and timelines for the arrival of humans in Australia were debated by archaeologists, but 60,000 years was 'not a contentious date'.

"'There are now several archaeological sites over 50,000 years old and one that is dated at 65,000 years ago (Madjedbebe),' he told CheckMate in an email."

...

Dr Ford [an associate professor of archaeology at the University of Otago in New Zealand], meanwhile, noted it was 'not unusual for dates to change, particularly as dating techniques have improved over time'.

"'Science is constantly moving forward,' she said.

"'Much of the debate about modern human origins in Australia is fed by and feeds back into our understanding of global modern human expansion and this field is constantly changing.'

And Dr Griffiths told CheckMate: 'It's not about stretching the truth or changing goal posts. Science, like history, is an ongoing inquiry. Knowledge is ever evolving.'"

...

My comment: So knowledge is ever-evolving, except when self-serving politicians and their cronies try to stifle scientific investigation in the pursuit of their own nefarious ends, e.g. the scientific development of vaccinations.
