In this Deep Red State I didn't hear one lament for Columbus.
(Probably because we do not have a strong Italian subculture)
On the local news we had a young man from our Cultural Center explain that Alaska has 229 tribes, which is way more than I was aware of. When I was traveling out to villages I was aware of 56 or so, but that didn't extend to the Aleutians, Kodiak, or the Panhandle. So I guess that number is pretty accurate.
