I've only just come across this obituary thread through a search for Dave, after a mention by Bob Harris on the radio.
I knew Dave from his first steps as a BBC Radio producer in Manchester working with various light music groups mainly at the BBC Playhouse theatre. We worked together for many years after that on various programmes, sessions for Radio One and Two, but with his Blues Programme being the main one. He introduced Paul Jones as a broadcaster, and I recorded many studio sessions with visiting American artists in Manchester and Stockport with him, Rory Gallagher's session at Strawberry Studios being a memorable one.
He's still sadly missed and although I'm now retired I still play some of the sessions we recorded.
