In a suburb of Nottingham, there's a housing estate built on ex-MOD land which had been part of the Chilwell army barracks. During the Great War, the site contained an ammunition depot .... until someone walked through it with steel-toecapped boots, and struck a spark. Cue one massive explosion, big enough to deposit bodies in the River Trent several miles away.

When we were living in the vicinity, that part of the site was in use as a tank-testing area, until it was sold off for much-needed housing development. It was a thoughtful touch that the streets laid down were named after those who had died in the explosion.
