From the Derry Journal link above:
The North West has lost a most prolific writer, musician, geneaologist and researcher following the passing of Seoirse Ó Dochartaigh.

Mr. Ó Dochartaigh, who lived in Inishowen, from where he drew much inspiration, passed away at his home in Mossyglen, Moville, on November 21, following a long illness.

Just a few weeks ago, in October, his latest book. ‘Blue Murder in Moviile: A Whodunnit from Inishowen,’ was launched. In August, he launched a collection of poems celebrating the peninsula entitled ‘As I Was Going Through Inishowen‘. The books he authored, music he wrote and paintings he created, will endure as a testament to a place he cherished. Many will also serve as important historical documents, including ‘INIS EOGHAIN The Island of Eoghan: The Place-Names of Inishowen’ and many on clan history, such as The Seven Races of Inishowen O'Doherty and, two volumes of The Great Marriage Book of Inishowen.

Further, lauded titles include Sunlight and Shadow. A Listener's Guide to Irish Classical Music; The Miller's Odyssey. Old Buncrana from West End to Mill End and Know Your Place. An Exploration of the Place Names of Ireland.

Self-taught on the guitar, he also had a rich musical discography, with recordings of his music published since the late 80s. He both founded the band Dúlamán in the 90s and performed as a solo performer. His discography includes Slán agus Beannacht, Oíche go Maidin, Dúlamán a’ tSléibhe, Amhráin agus Bodhráin, Crimson Moon – Gealach Dhearg and Ciorcal Rónáin.

Ó Dochartaigh studied fine arts (painting) at the Ulster College of Art, Belfast, followed by postgraduate studies in education at Cardiff University. He taught art full-time in a number of places, including in Armagh, Belfast and Donegal Town and his captivating artworks were exhibited in galleries across Ireland and the world.

Mr Ó Dochartaigh is the husband of Kathryn and much loved father of Rónán, Neassa, Anna and Katharina and step-father of Steven and cherished grandfather of Cillian. He is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his sister Anne, nieces and nephews, extended family circle, friends and neighbours.

A private cremation for Seoirse will take place at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan at a later date.
