Somehow, around here in WASH. D.C., it became 'usual' when singing the line "dabtoes forward and the dustmen aft" to hold 'aft' for 4 long beats. Then, when Cyril Tawney visited many years ago, he insisted that HE never wrote it that way or sang it like that.
   I'm curious as to whether it happened elsewhere.
