I suppose I should say Northumbrian pipes but my newest instrument, the one I use now is a Canadian Merlin, a cross between a traveller's guitar and a Southern Appalachian dulcimer. It's light weight, easy to carry, easy to play, tuned DAD, has a bright sound and I can play chords or tunes on it.
Although I have a large collection of guitars, autoharp, dulcimer, pipes, recorders, accordions, banjo, ukuleles, etc. this Seagull Merlin is the one I use all the time now, playing at our local session or the occasional ceilidh.
