On June 21, 1841, Texas Rangers skirmished with Comanches at Uvalde Canyon, very roughly in a straight line between San Antonio and the Rio Grande. The Rangers suffered no casualties.

Rather further from San Antonio, and in the wrong direction, was a larger battle near modern Lockhart at Plum Creek on Aug. 12, 1840. One Ranger was killed and seven wounded out of a force of 200.
