In Canada, only the smokiest, most high-nosed Anglican churches still run the O antiphons, using a wonderful home-grown arrangement by Healy Willan. Now that I live in a far-flung suburb of Ottawa, where festive music at church tends to involve guitars and drums, I’ll have to sing them by myself at home. Not a chance I’m struggling downtown in this weather.
