Okay, further info re Orton, he was originally from Beeston in Norfolk about 15 miles from Terrington near King's Lynn, so that is the most likely place intended.
My God, Grainger's handwriting is worse than mine. Took me a while to transcribe all of his songs. The first thing to note is he learned his songs either from named acquaintances or his father. He was living in Barrow on the Humber when he was recorded by Grainger in 1906, though I'm guessing he was probably a coasting seaman as he learnt his best song 'The Rainbow' from another Norfolk man Tom King in Hull, and this version was published in the Folksong Journals. John Riley is a full version learnt from his father.
Regarding the song, a search through Norfolk printed broadsides would perhaps be fruitful, Lane of Norwich perhaps, but the Norfolk broadsides were held in their central library which I seem to remember was burnt down about 40 years ago and the broadsides lost. There will be some in the Madden and some in the Bodl but that's still down at the moment.
