Subject: RE: Origins: A different Young Banker
Thanks, Bob, I also explored some of these channels, but should have gone into Roud broadside entries as they cover Madden and Bodl, at least as regards titles.

What I forgot to mention was as I was searching through Grainger's transcriptions of Orton's songs I got 2 further lines on Young Banker, presumably the start of a 4th verse.

Yes, you can go with me and I'll make you my wife,
And for you I will work all the days of my life.

Another point perhaps worth mentioning is that the broadsides of Roud3321 nowhere are titled 'Young Banker' Their most common title is 'A New Song called The Banking Boy' and banker versions didn't appear until about 1840. Prior to that the main character was a farmer (18thc) and then a drummer (early 19thc Scotland). This presents the possibility that Orton's Young Banker gave its title to the c1840 broadside rather than the other way round.
