I just found this.   Tom Hawken sang this song in English at Jonnie Rankin's memorial service about 20 years ago and I have been trying to find the original off and on ever since.   The clip from the film is amazing... although I don't understand the Russian of course.

This kind of solved a 20 year old mystery for me!    Thank you so much.
