Subject: RE: 2025 Obit: Rod Stradling
It was a shock when I heard of Rod's passing. We had spoken on the phone recently and he sounded just the same. We first met some 50 years ago, when I was wandering around the Thames Valley in search of songs. Rod and Danni were then living in Cricklade and I would drop in to let them listen to what I had been finding. When he founded his Musical Traditions on-line magazine he asked if I would contribute. Then he began to issue CDs of traditional singers and musicians, a whole trove of amazing and wonderful recordings that had been overlooked by the major record companies. It was surely a money-losing idea, but one that Rod was passionate about. Rod did everything that he could to preserve this music, not just for the present generation, but for all future generations. It was a privilege to have known him and to have been able to work alongside him.
