Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir moved on to another realm earlier this week and to me the China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider medley from Europe 72 live album is a great example of his abilities as a versatile and imaginative 2nd guitarist. Jerry always sounded his best when Bob was backing him up. I've begun to think of the segue between songs on this particular piece as representative of the Dead's transition from Psychedelia to Americana, though they always retained a tinge of the Psychedelic.China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider
