This song came to mind last yeat when Gif passed away and, again, last week when my good friends at Swinton Folk Club sang it.

I cannot find a version by Dereck but here is a lovely version by Johnny Collins

I love the opening line of the chorus

"Let every man so pitch his song,
to help his neighbour sing along"

I am pretty sure it does not just refer to singing. Although helping you neighbour to sing is a good start :-)
