Just received the sad news that our great friend Joe Nicholson has sadly passed away after a short illness. He was a great supporter of our local folk clubs and loved to sing. He especially loved chorus songs that got audiences joining with gusto to "raise the rafters" He and Mo were also stalwarts of Whitby Folk Week and ran nightly singarounds for many years. First in The Plough till grumpy Humphrey banned live music in his pubs and latterly at The Rifle Club. Here are a couple of photos from hundreds that were taken over the years. The first was their (and our) first Whitby Folk week in 1982 at the afore mentioned Plough and the other is something of a mystery. As you can see I queried it with Joe and you can see his reply. He never did get back to me but it captures his sense of fun and is a reminder of all the great times and many laughs we had over the years. Joe you will be sadly missed by all your many friends. RIP.
