Thread Name: ADD: Sleeping Beauty - chris'ning day of child...
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: christening day of a child princess
I also remember this from my childhood. My grandchildren thought it incomplete so I added two more verses in the middle. Sharing here in case they are helpful for other grandparents!

On the christening day of a child princess, the most beautiful ever seen,
Came a party of guests to the palace feast by order of king and queen.
Six good fairies danced for her, weaved their magic spells,
Gave the child their wondrous gift, wished the princess well.

But a wicked old witch they did not invite was angered to prophesy
That the tiniest prick on her finger tip would cause the princess to die.
One good fairy had saved her wish, soothed the royal tears,
Said gently that princess child would sleep one hundred years.

So the king and Queen made a royal decree meant to keep their daughter safe
That no needles or pins or any sharp things were allowed in this place
And the princess grew up, so beautiful, safe from the prophecy
But one day soon that mean old witch found a way to to make it be.

Well disguised as a peddler dame to the palace she did ride
With silks and threads in blues, golds, and reds, and a needle case hidden inside.
The princess happily bought her wares eager to learn to sew
She pricked her finger and fell asleep and the rest of this story you know.

When the years had passed by, came a handsome prince like dawn on a summer's day,
To arouse the princess from her magic sleep and make all the castle gay.
Violins and oboes played songs from the olden times.
Sleeping Beauty and her prince danced to wedding chimes.
