Go here and download Ad-Aware (free download) and run it. You may be very surprised at what you find lurking on your computer. (Ad-aware is a spy-ware sniffer, and replaces the old trusty Opt-Out program.) Spyware are invisible cookies planted on your system (by certain companies including Qualcomm - makers of Eudora, as well as the manufacturers of Cute FTP, and many other shareware and freeware distributors as well) which act as transponders and send back to their originators aspects of your surfing habits and the types of web sites you visit, as well as the types of software you download.

I just discovered that Eudora adds a special folder to initiate spyware, and eventhough Ad-Aware removed it when it found it, everytime I re-launch Eudora it reinitializes the spyware (and I have a paid, registered copy). The unregistered copies show ads, but I mistakenly thought this was all eliminated by using the paid version. There is also a bill before Congress to ban all spyware, and Qualcomm and other companies have been singled out.
