Before Ray Fisher knew my name she referred to me as 'The Rantin Rovin Boy' because of my vigorous performance of McPherson's Farewell at a Ballad and Blues performance in Glasgow's Iona Community in about 1958.
In my experience in Scotland singers tend to refer to his 'Farewell' and fiddlers refer to his 'Rant'.
