Since this has come up, it's perhaps worth noting that the late Peter Ostroushko was Ukrainian, and fairly open about it. He died before the Ukraine war began, but I wonder if he still has relatives there.

The other interesting point is that, for most of his life, he wasn't much of a songwriter. This was basically the only thing he wrote. He was just the guy who played a whole bunch of instruments, and played them better than you did. (Literally. One of his bandmates talked about that.) He was, for many, many years, the most popular studio musician in Minnesota folk music.

Though he wasn't all that easy to get along with, from my little experience and my rather greater experience with people who knew him better than I.
