I came across MC when a friend let me into his friend's house to stay the night (his friend was away, but that's what it was like then). He was blind and hungry, so we raided his friend's food and I made him (and me) apple, cheese and chutney sandwiches. We noticed a new LP lying on the table: Shearwater. Rory knew of MC from 3 city 4, so we put it on the turntable and played it (oh, and we raided his stock of drink while we listened). Riveted. Didn't dare move while Famous Flower of Serving Men was playing. Listened again in the morning, this time counted the corpses. Left a couple of quid to cover expenses when we left.
