Minor correction to my previous: The Wayfaring Stranger session was Burl Ives' only '44 solo session with Asch-Lomax. The whole gang was right back in the studio as part of the March, 1944 Songs For Victory (The Union Boys, A346) session. Mx 613-623 also has huge gaps in it.

CBS Radio's Hootenanny: Back Where I Come From (also a Lomax joint) was the source of both albums' A&R.

Strictly off the record, deep background, Elbow Cay good-ol'-folks network… Wayfaring Stranger was originally planned as six tracks for a one-time flat fee. Asch & Ives did not get along at all about anything up to and including where Burl Ives his own self was actually from(!?.) When Asch insisted on rerecording the entire album, Ives balked and walked out. Stinson Trading Co. (the actual paying customer) stepped in and it was agreed, the do over was necessary but Alan Lomax would be brought in as engineer/producer. Ergo, the lower Mx numbers in the sequence should be the Moe Asch outakes.

Fact is, each and every Wayfaring Stranger (re)issue resulted in at least one lawsuit by somebody. Burl Ives sued Asch Studios, Stinson Trading Co. & Stinson Records, each in their turn. On one occasion artists were forced to accept Stinson Trading Co. finished goods in lieu of royalties owed.

Can't tell if any of those deliberately defaced masters in the Brooklyn stuff ever got cataloged at all. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a Burl Ives or three in there.
