Maybe - but for me the value is in capturing the look or sound (or preferably both) of the material in performance, by an artist or artists that I rate - because there is something in the performance that excites or connects with the human spirit in some mysterious way, that just reading a lyric, or reconstructing a melody from the written notes does not...
