Many many years ago, Thomas Friedman visited Alaska and talked about technology and what it was doing TO us rather than FOR us. I remember that he specifically mentioned Osama Bin Laden as a super empowered individual enabled by the internet. This was the Summer before 9/11. The term he(Thomas) was trying to popularize was the state of "Continuous Partial Attention" that was weakening our ability to effectively think.

AI, Twitter/X and YouTube and TicToc and Instagram are pretty much finishing that for us.
