Thread Name: What will historians of the future value
Subject: RE: What will historians of the future value
Hi Erin,

No, it seems that there is another Tony Rees out there in this instance, as visible at Talking To Your Dog Song: "Talking to Your Dog Isn't Silly" written by Tony Rees ... so not me, sorry!

Just getting back to the original topic of this thread... it was prompted by consideration of my own holdings, collected very sporadically over a 50+ year period; however while pursuing an unrelated matter I came by chance upon the work of "real" folklorists, whose holdings make mine seem quite trivial - see e.g. Library of Congress: John Cohen collection ... nevertheless I am still convinced that some common principles can be derived, when considering what is worth keeping (and could thus be of value to future historians) and what probably is not! (In this case the subject/person/collector is lucky in that first, the intrinsic value of their collection is easy to recognise, and second, there is an institution willing to accept and curate it into the future, external circumstances permitting of course.)
