From comments on an ElReg article (Don’t blame AI yet for poor jobs numbers, analysts say):

"shed 92,000 jobs in February, a dramatic downturn from analyst expectations that it would add about 50,000 jobs."

To my mind that is a shortfall of 142,000. The 50,000 not employed plus 92,000 that lost their employment.

Generally an economy has to continuously add jobs to maintain a constant (un)employment rate to account for the increase in the working age population and changing demographics.

I guess the administration might be recruiting for this season's world series wars. The persian away game looks like promising way of reducing the working age population unemployment in the US.
