Techie here. Beware of solid-state drives: it's long been recognised in the trade that the mean time to first failure is now greater for them than for traditional hard drives, but the first failure of an SSD is almost invariably fatal. My own desktop system has an SSD, but I carefully ignored it at OS installation time, and everything is on the spinning rust. (I'm dreading to think what will happen shortly with the SSD in this 'ere laptop. Note to self: clone the home directory while it's still there.)

For completeness, burn-your-own CDs tend to die with age (we're talking years here). You may get better results by keeping them in the dark, and in particular away from the UV in sunlight, but no promises.
