Subject: RE: Tech: Linux networking help
Again, as the most recent Linux thread here, I'll use this to share a couple of videos I came across as I research the next stage for computers at my house.
The Windows 11 Crisis Explained Like You're 5 describes the insidious process that Microsoft is forcing on computer users with the upgrades in equipment in order to run their newer operating systems. I'm running Win10 on the desktops and my laptop and have resisted the update to 11. Watch this and you'll get a really good description of why that next OS is toxic. A couple of the computers got a pass (an extra year of Win10 support) because I sync my data, but that will run out in October. I Switched From Windows to Linux Full Time: 30 Days Later (Honest Results) is an eye-opening look at just how far along Linux et al (its versions) have come. Linux Mint is the one he suggests is good for most competent users who don't have high-end gaming or shared-productivity software needs.
I've used a dual boot system in the past, I can do it now. But I have questions. I'm wondering how many Linux users are there on Mudcat these days, and how they've solved a number of issues (I'll stress that this is in regard to recent times - you can search Linux in the SuperSearch and find threads from 2005 and 2011 and such that probably aren't helpful now.)
My older computer came back to life (connects to the Internet) last year and it has my better versions of Adobe software, so that stays a Windows environment. But the newer computer, where I installed older versions of Adobe software and still have those disks) can be a dual boot or switch completely to OpenOffice and other non-Windows software.
