I have been experiencing a mild shadow of what you're going through. After ignoring the state of my eyes I submitted myself to cataract surgery, knowing that I really needed it but not understanding much about it. Had to arrange transportation because anesthesia is involved. Uber and friends helped.
One eye was scheduled to be 'done' 2 weeks ahead of the other, which seemed bothersome. Turns out that was to suit the surgeon, not myself. The surgeon had medical issue and was unavailable in December, so that when they were well and active again, my eyes were rescheduled to be done one day apart in January. That worked much better for me. There were other little changes and miscommunications that occurred, not necessarily to suit me, but long story short, I've got 'new' eyes. Still learning to live with NOT using glasses when I used to, and now needing reading glasses when I didn't used to.
Again, this is minor stuff that a lot of you have already gone through but my point is even our best medical professionals have their own lives and schedules.
Most important and nothing new, having the ability to put faith in our professionals and their institutions is fundamental to everything else.
We live in interesting times with so many feedback channels that we have to pick and choose among them to get to the right folks.
May things go well with you, ask questions and keep communicating!
