Seems like The Wurtzels sang something similar in the mid seventies, although perhaps with less verses.

For the non-British here, The Wurtzels were a group of young men who sang traditional and not so traditional songs that were losely from SW England, such as "I've Got a Brand New Combine Harvester and I'll Give You The Key" tta "I've Got a Brand New Set of Roller Skates and I'll Give You The Key", and "Dorset is Beautiful", in the beery traditional manner. They got a lot of play on the British Radio about the time that Steeleye Span came out with "All Around my Hat", another British Top-10 song for a while.

As I understand things, the Wurtzel is a tall growing plant/weed that produces pods with stubborn stickers on them, which were once fastened to wooden pieces and used to tease or comb wool and perhaps cotton, hence their name.
