Hi Mollificent and others! Two things about "The Irish Volunteer." First, the line, "I was born among old Erin's bogs when I was but a child" is a joke. Second, I was having a conversation with Mick Moloney a few months back and he did a fast calculation. If the line, "My father died in '98 for Liberty" was true, then the fictional Tim McDonald would've been a minimum of 63 years old at the outbreak of the Civil War... not prime material for the "good ould 69th."
All the best,
Dan Milner
