Actually, in reading Nagle's journal it was a bit of a problem getting home. Plus, as you say, he had made it his career. I had the sense, in reading it, that there was an ulterior reason for not going home. It may have been that he never got the chance.There is a great description of walking the streets of London and meeting a young prostitute. Plus Nagle was present at some of the great events of the time. He was in China for the Jupiter incident and on the ship that delivered the first convicts to New Zealand. He was shipwrecked on NZ for quite some time.
