This is similar to the SOCAN people fining small shops who play a cassette in the background of their store. USually they are places where tourists visit. Normally these visitors would ask about a song or singer from hearing the music.SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors & Music Publishers of Canada) sent a number of these small shops an invoice (not sure how much) because they were playing SOCAN registered music. The store owners, and I've heard of at least three, have declined to pay, and have decided to stop playing this music.
Sad but true.
